  3. Any document specified by FSSAI or Commissioner of Food Safety through a public order for any particular kind of Business Activity in general.

D: Documents required for Renewal of License (for all KoBs)

  1. Supporting Document for the purpose of modification on the letterhead.
  2. Any document which is required by the licensing authority to ensure safety of food.

WHO REQUIRES?

For those thinking to start with food business, are generally termed as food business operator(FBO) in legal term requires FFSAI License,  may it be small business hawkers, petty retailers or any restaurant owner.

Here is the list mentioned below who requires food license mandatorily. They are:

    • Simple transporters who transport items from one place to another
    • Procurement, manufacturer, Distribution, Processing, Packaging, and Storage.

In simple words, all the individuals running a food business may it be of selling or manufacturing or storing requires FSSAI Registration. It is a compulsory compliance which if not complied with may lead to high compliances.

FEE STRUCTURE

  1. The FSSAI Registration fees charged by Food Business Operator (FBO) is Rs. 100 per annum
  2. The FSSAI state license charged by food businesses is Rs. 2000 to Rs. 5000 per annum. *The fees vary from state to state.
  3. The FSSAI Central license charges is Rs. 7500 per annum.

PENALTY

  • As per Section 50 of the Food Safety & Standards, fine of Rs. 2 Lakh or penalty of Rs. 25,000/- is charged by the seller in the case, where the nature and quality of food is not up to the quality prescribed by the Act.
  • As per Section 51 of the Food Safety & Standards, fine of Rs. 5 Lakh is charged by manufacturer, seller, storage, distributor, importer, when any of them are caught selling of sub-standard food products to the public.
  • As per Section 53 of the Food Safety & Standards, Rs. 10 Lakh is charged for publishing misleading advertisement where false description, nature or quality or substance is mentioned. The publisher or person involved in publishing the advertisement shall be liable.
  • As per Section 54 of the Food Safety & Standards, Rs. 1 Lakh is charged by manufacturer, seller, storage, distributor, importer where food products are found to contain extraneous matters.
  • As per Section 55 of the Food Safety & Standard, Rs. 2 Lakh is charged by food business operator or importer who fails to comply with FSO directions.
  • As per Section 56 of the Food Safety & Standard, Rs. 1 Lakh is charged by manufacturer or processor where unhygienic or unsanitary practices are followed.

Step by Step Registration Process

Discussion

Now when name the application is filed and a unique application reference number is generated, the department will review the application.

Day 5

In the next 7 days, the designated authority, after reviewing the application, may grant or reject the license. If granted then the food business operator is all set to start the business.

Day 10-12

Then another 30 days time period is taken by the department for inspection of application. And after inspection the department issues the FSSAI Registration License.
