Restricted entry of food items in under specific ports

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs has issued guidelines dated 14^th November on the subject matter of “Restricted entry of food items in under specific ports”. Under this, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has decided that from the initial date of February, the import of some of the high-risk products shall be allowed only through 61 ports. The ports which are directly manned and managed by FSSAI office/officials.

Prior to this, an order was sent by the FSSAI to the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) that states “In pursuance of Section 25, Chapter V of Food Safety and Standards Act, empowering Food Safety and Standards Authority of India to regulate and ensure the safety of food being imported in the country and to envisage a robust import control system ensuring efficient monitoring and traceability of high risk products, it has been decided that import of high risk products as specified below shall be permitted through 61 ports only which are directly manned and managed by FSSAI office/officials (list of port enclosed).

The high-risk products for which 61 different ports are permitted are :-

1. Milk and Milk Products
2. Egg Powder
3. Meat and Meat Products including Poultry, Fish and their products
4. Food for infant nutrition. Infant foods
5. Nutraceuticals Health supplements, food for Dietary uses. Probiotic and prebiotic foods. Foods for Special Medical Purpose.
