Will ITR last date be extended?

Due to the pandemic, last date of filing ITR (Income Tax Return) was extended. As things are now come back to normal, there are less chances of ITR filing deadline to be extended, as per my opinion.

However, the Income Tax Department on its Twitter handle said that accessing the income tax portal seems difficult for users due to irregular traffic occurring and making it difficult for taxpayers to file their ITR as reported by Infosys.

With so many complaints and issue coming while filing, there is a possibility of ITR filing last date to be extended. Also, as per the saying of the tax experts, very less of taxpayers have filed their Income Tax Returns and most of them are yet to file it. By estimation, Rs. 6 crore taxpayers are yet to pay according to Sujit Bangar, Ex-IRS officer. Considering this, income tax return may be extended as per the observation made by the Income Tax Department.

Not only this, but according to the data published by Income Tax Department, only 30 Lakhs ITR were filed in the first seven days of the month of July.

Due to the unexpected and unfortunate interruption occurring even after one year of launch of the new Income Tax Website, it is becoming difficult for users to access the ITR filing forms. This problem is making it a bit complicated for the department to find the reason behind the slow working of the newly launched website.

The last date of filing income tax return (ITR) is 31st July for financial year 2021-22.

Hurry and do not wait for the last days to come, as there are not 100% chances of the ITR filing last date to be extended.

Even if it gets extended, it will be only a short extension.
So, advising for the betterment of you, we recommend to file your ITR today itself.
