The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has made it obligatory for all entities undertaking Corporate Social Responsibility to file eForm CSR-1 for all the CSR projects. Also, Form CSR-1 shall be digitally signed and submitted electronically by the entity and also must be verified digitally by a practicing professional like CA or CS or CMA.

Corporate Social Responsibility form i.e. form CSR-1 is a form introduced by MCA to be filed by the company. However, it is a one-time exercise in order to receive funds the CSR funds from the company.

Who needs to pay CSR?

The Companies Act provides for the provision of CSR under section 135 of the companies act. Under it, companies are obligated to spend a minimum of 2% of their net profit over the preceding three years as CSR.

Applicability of CSR

As per Section 135 of the Companies Act, there is a threshold limit which is as follows:-

Where a company has

  1. net worth of Rs. 500 crores or more;
  2. turnover to be Rs. 1000 crores or more;
  3. net profit to be Rs. 5 crore or more

Step 1 : Open the MCA Portal (www.mca.gov.in)

Step 4 : Press the Ctrl button along with the alphabet F to search for the form CSR-1.

  • Certification by a practicing professional.

Step 6 : Fill the form and get it verified digitally by a Chartered Accountant (CA), Company Secretary (CS), or Cost Accountant in practice.

Step 7 : After verification of the CSR-1 form it is then required to be submitted on the MCA Portal.

Step 8 : Once the form is submitted, a unique CSR Registration Number will automatically be generated.
