Eligible individuals allowed to register DSC on MCA

As per the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), the following are the individuals who can update DSC on MCA, having valid DSC.

  • Directors of Company or Designated Partners of LLP
  • Managers/ Secretaries
  • Practising Professionals like Chartered Accountant/Company Secretary
  • Authorised Representatives
  • Nodal Officers – IEPF
  • Deputy Nodal Officers – IEPF

These were the eligible individuals allowed to update DSC on the MCA site. Now, let us now move ahead to know why updating a DSC on MCA Portal is necessary compliance.

Why updating DSC on MCA?

Basically, every director of the company is allotted a DIN and DSC which are the basic requirements, as both of the DIN and DSC are used in filing forms and returns. Without a DIN or DSC, filing on MCA becomes impossible. Therefore, DSC is considerably a necessary tool that every director of the company must have. Now, if a director or any of the individuals mentioned above have a DSC but are not updated then, it is automatically considered as not a valid DSC and will not be accepted on the MCA site.

After the company’s incorporation, primarily the DSC of a Director is registered on MCA Portal. To aware the MCA i.e. the government body about the true identity of the person, registering and updating DSC becomes a necessary process.

DSC Validity

DSC is the Digital Signature Certificate which is also termed as an electronic signature that is used while filing forms under MCA V3 Portal. DSC is different from that of PAN or other documents that are valid for life. DSC has a validity period that is generally one or two years which needs to be updated as soon as it is about to expire. Therefore, keeping the DSC updated is necessary.

 

Update DSC on MCA

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs portal provides you with majorly two options, namely:-

  • Update DSC for Bank Official/ Nodal Administrator
  • Update DSC for Business Users

The first option named as “Update DSC for Bank Official / Nodal Administrator is the option open for all. You are required to fill the below-mentioned options:-

  • User ID of Bank Official/ Nodal Administrator/External Agency User
  • Name
  • Email Id

However, the second option “Update DSC for Business Users” is a locked option, which means you will need to first login into My Workspace and then only, you will be able to Update your DSC.

Process to Update DSC on MCA

Here is the process involved in updating DSC on MCA V3 portal. The steps are as follows:-

Step 1 : Search on google, the official site where the companies are registered i.e. MCA Portal. Here is the direct link :- www.mca.gov.in

Step 2 : After search, you will see the MCA Homepage opened on your screen. From the MCA menu, select “MCA Services”. Just by dragging the mouse to MCA Services, a list of sub-headings shall be displayed in front of you. Select the first option “DSC Services”.

Step 3 : DSC Services will further provide you three options, named as :-

Step 4 : The Last step is to click on “Update DSC” option and from there you will be able to update DSC.

Associate DSC on MCA

If you are a manager/secretary/CEO/CFO and want to register or update DSC on MCA then, From DSC Services, select “Associate DSC” and fill the information as asked. Like, at first select the role you have. Under role following options shall be given:-

  • Director
  • Manager/Secretary
  • Practising Professional
  • Authorised Representative
  • Nodal Officer – IEPF
  • Deputy Nodal Officer – IEPF

Select the role and proceed further with the process of updating DSC on MCA website. Then on the next page displayed in front of you, enter the DIN/DPIN and the Date of Birth that is a necessary field to be filled. After that, a pop-up message will be displayed which will say “You have already registered your DSC as a director against the entered DIN. Do you want to update you DSC?”. Click Yes, if your DSC was expired and you are updating the DSC on the MCA official site. Enter the details as asked. And at last, a confirmation message will be displayed upon successful submission.
